Affiliate Marketing Is Difficult

Affiliate Marketing Is Difficult

Affiliate Marketing Is Difficult

I hear this a lot. I wanted to write this post to give some feedback on my thoughts when I hear people say such sweeping statements about Affiliate Marketing.

Most things in this life of ours that are worth doing, will have some element of difficulty about them. That’s just the way it is. Affiliate Marketing is no different. Yes – it’s a low-barrier-of-entry business, but the truth of the matter is that Affiliate Marketing is difficult.

Now, let me quantify that sweeping statement a bit –

When you first start off in this business, there are lot’s of unknowns. It all of the stuff that you don;t know that gives this business it’s difficulty. If there were a step-by-step process for helping you build your affiliate marketing business from beginning to end, then that element of challenge would really be eliminated entirely. Unfortunately, there is not such thing as a blueprint to success in Affiliate Marketing.

Why Is Affiliate Marketing So Hard?

For most people I think they struggle because they don’t have a support system in place that will assist them as they progress. This business is especially difficult for those who feel that they have to wing it, all by themselves, from start to finish.

One thing I’m going to do right here is point you in the right direction so that you can be sure to have all of the support you need. If you are currently going solo in your Affiliate Marketing endeavors, do yourself a favor and join up with the Community at Wealthy Affiliate. That will give you the community and support that is critical to your success in this business. That alone will take away the majority of the perceived difficulty associate with affiliate marketing.

Answering The Common Questions

I get a lot of questions from people who are either interest in affiliate marketing and they don;t know where to start, or they have been trying to make it work and are struggling and looking for a solution.

Here are some of the questions I get frequently:

Why is affiliate marketing so hard?

Usually people struggle because they aren’t plugged into a resource they can lean on when they encounter a problem. Having somewhere to turn when you need help is critical to your success. There are 2 things I tell people when I hear that they are struggling. 1) Get involved with Wealthy Affiliate because there is no better one-stop-shop resource. 2) I’m here to help and assist. Just shoot me a message or an email and I’m glad to point you in the right direction.

Is affiliate marketing difficult?

Yes and No. Yes affiliate marketing is difficult for those who have the personality type that makes you feel that you have to learn everything via trial and error. I used to be that way, but I quickly realized the value in following people that were already successful in something that I also wanted to become successful at. Affiliate Marketing is really brain-dead-simple when you get around the right people and are able to learn from them and emulate their success.

Is affiliate marketing profitable?

Yes it is. I’m proof of that. Let me just say real quick that I was also a skeptic at one point. Especially early on in the process you tend to be working MUCH harder and the money is MUCH less. That’s when it’s really difficult to see the potential with the business. What happens though is that you get better and better, and the money starts to grow more and more, then you actually work less and less. Yes, affiliate marketing is profitable. Work hard at getting your system set up, then not only is it profitable, but it’s largely hands-off.

Is affiliate marketing a good business?

I certainly think so. What other business are you able to create great money from your computer, working from wherever you want, in a niche that you are passionate about, while helping people along the way. I mean, to me that sounds pretty rad. Personally, I love anything that creates income streams because the more automatic income I have, the more freedom I have as well. I love this business. It’s easy to get into, low risk, and huge upside. Affiliate marketing is a good business, and I think the business of affiliate marketing just plain rocks!

Is affiliate marketing worth it?

Absolutely. It’s completely worth the time and effort it takes to build. Trouble with most people is that they have a hard time seeing past the early stages of the business. Initially it can be tough to carry on with building the business when it is not yet profitable. Hey – that’s how it is with any business, and the business of affiliate marketing is not different. It’s not going to make you rich overnight – not at all. Affiliate marketing is worth it. For those who can see the big picture and they are not opposed to working hard to achieve great things, the business is absolutely, unequivocally, WORTH IT.

Is affiliate marketing real?

Why yes it is. It’s a real business, just like any other business out there that offers a product in exchange for money. Of course, this business does have some pretty unique perks, but it’s really not that much different from your typical brick-and-mortar business. Just take away the bricks, and the mortar, and the physical products. Of course, I always understand the skepticism that comes along with ‘Internet Opportunities” – most of them are too good to be true. Yes, affiliate marketing is real. It’s a 100% viable business that works.

Is affiliate marketing legit?

Yes it is. There are plenty of weird internet businesses out there that are NOT legit – probably even the majority of them I’d bet. Affiliate Marketing is real, and it’s hear to stay. Affiliate marketing is legit. As long as people keep buying stuff online, Affiliate Marketing is going to be right there along side and be a profitable way to build a business around providing people with the products and information they are looking for.

So, there you have it

The business works. It’s real. It makes people lot’s of money.

Personally, I love it. It fits right in with my personality and my needs for being able to earn online income in ways that are as automatic and passive as possible. I just love being paid over and over for the work I do once. That’s just such a cool concept.

If you don’t have support: Get Support

If you have questions: Ask for help

If your unmotivated: Get motivated

If you procrastinate: Get off your butt

If your stuck: Do whatever it takes to get UN-stuck

This business works. That’s the bottom line. If you’re not making money, no offense, but you’re either not doing something right or not doing anything at all. The good news is that both of those problems are easily remedied!

Here’s another little resource that I can give you that should benefit you along the way. I wanted to share this supplementary article by Skip McGrath –Ten Tips for Successful Affiliate Marketing. It’s just a good, no-nonsense, basic list of good practices that will help you stay on the path to successful affiliate marketing.

If you can learn, type, and operate a computer – there’s nothing holding you back from making money online with affiliate marketing.

You Day #1 Lesson Is On The Way!

  1. Hi, great to read your story about affiliate marketing. I agree with you that it is hard.

Now, it is a bit difficult to me to accept that it is brain-dead-simple as you write, but if you are the proof that it is profitable, then I must accept it. I can only thank you for such an encouragment.

    • Jovo,

Affiliate marketing is as easy as you want it to be. For some people who insist on going at it solo, it can be ESPECIALLY challenging… that’s what I did for the longest while. Hey – I can be kinda hard-headed. Luckily, I learned the value in connecting with a community who can help and support you when needed.

Be encouraged. Between myself and the good folks at Wealthy Affiliate, you’ve got MORE than enough support to make big things happen.

Thanks for the kinds works! Please do keep in touch.

  2. You definitely got a point! There are many unknowns here and what I think is the most important to succeed is to have a great support and believe in yourself! Know that you’ll make it – and you’ll make it!

Also you need to be persistent and not tell anyone about what you set out to do, people are envious and will bring you down with their sheep thinking:)

    Great post, thanks for sharing.

    Best regards.

    • Kush,

The bottom line is that anybody can do this stuff.

As long as you commit to a learning process and make a steady effort towards your goal on a regular basis – you WILL succeed. You WILL make money online.

Thanks for the comment Kush. Check back often my friend.

  3. What a great article Ben!

I’m sold on Wealthy Affiliate now. I had heard of them before and not really given the opportunity much thought, but your write-up has given me a new motivation to “get off my butt” – as you so gently put it. 😉

Thanks for the jolt of energy and all of the great detail. I’m looking forward to being one of your regular readers. I’ll be in touch!

  4. Sammi,

I’m glad you liked the article, and I’m even MORE glad that you’ve found new motivation to press forward and make it happen. We all need a little kick in the pants sometimes – myself included.

I’d be honored if you would check back often and stay in contact. We can all learn something from one another. I really enjoy teaching people, so it’s my pleasure to assist in any way that I can.

If you ever need help, just reach out!

  5. Hi! It is very hard to keep going when you see that nothing is happening! Very frustrating! But it gets easier when there is so much people around that are telling that it is worth it, just keep moving, DO NOT quit. That is why WA is so amazing, also. Thank you for post and encouragement!

    • Branka,

The hardest part of any business endeavor is the period of time when you have to continue pressing forward even though there is no positive feedback that the efforts you are putting in are going to actually reap any sort of reward.

I think of that period of time as the “get-check-period”. It’s during that period of time when you will be tested. You’ll have to basically prove to yourself how bad you really want it.

There have been thousands of people who have done it before you though. It can be done. Just stay on track, keep putting one foot in front of the other, and you WILL realize success.

  6. Hi there Ben,

I think affiliate marketing is hard if the focus is only on selling stuff. There are a lot of sites like these on the internet, trying to push you to buy things and people are generally immune to it I guess. Besides, there are also scam sites that make people feel wary if they should trust what you say.

So the key point here is to build trust with the readers first before the promotion, which can be a challenge in the online world but it’s certainly not impossible.

    • Cathy,

You’re exactly right. That’s something that I think people get wrong a lot. Their focus is to SELL, SELL, SELL – and they lose site that they should really be working on HELPING and EDUCATING their audience. If they can focus on the right thing, then the selling will happen naturally.

  7. Affiliate marketing is simple. Simple but not easy. But I agree with the things you said. People often struggle because they don’t get the help and support needed to overcome their problems. I also recommend WA for this very reason. The community is awesome and offers real help. And that’s huge in affiliate marketing.

  8. This article really held my attention Ben, particularly because you emphasized the difficulty part.

It isn’t easy that’s for sure but then nothing worthwhile ever is. It got me thinking and I have bookmarked your site to explore later on. You write well and your explanation of affiliate marketing was great. I actually read it twice

  9. Great points and I couldn’t agree more.

Yes it’s difficult but as you’ve pointed out, there are things you can do to make it a little easier.

Before I became a member of Wealthy Affiliate I was trying to piece together bits form here and there and I just ended up with a kind of affiliate marketing frankinstein-style monster. It was only when I found a step by step training program I could follow systamatically that I started getting somewhere.

Depending on the competitiveness of the niche you’re going into, you’re going to have to push hard to come out on top. You’ve got to be willing to do things other people aren’t willing to do and most importantly for me, there are times, especially when you’re first starting out in affiliate marketing when you feel like you’re working for nothing before seeing any results.

But persist, keep going and you will get there!
