In this informative post, I’m going to tell you about a little “secret” that most online marketers would never disclose. Ranking your website with low competition keywords. This little trick is a way that you can get your website to rank in the 1st position quicker than any other method.

Website SEO is basically about giving people the content that they are searching for. Based on how well you are optimizing your website, Google and the other search engines will rank your website based on how well they feel that you are providing good, relevant information for the people that are entering search terms into the search engines.

One of the primary ways that you can “steer” people towards your website, is by building your content and posts around specific keywords. Basically, you want to pick keywords that are relevant to the content on the pages of your website.

So, what is a low competition keyword? Basically, it’s a keyword that not very many other people are using on their website. Sometimes, you can even be the ONLY person who is using a particular low competition keyword on a website.

Everyone tends to focus in on ranking their website for the same keyword, but only a few people are able to get any worthwhile traffic because so many people are fighting over the same high competition keywords.
  2. Target low traffic / low competition keywords: Over on this side of the fence, there is far less competition. What that means is that you can quickly and easily rank your website on the first page of the search engines by just cherry picking the low competition keywords. Yes – you’re per-keyword search traffic will be lower, BUT you can easily make up for that by simply adding a higher volume of keywords to make up for the traffic deficit. Problem solved!

Now, if you pick it apart a little bit and try to think of other search terms that are related to that one then you get low competition keywords that are a spin off of the original one.

So instead of trying to rank for “Online Marketing”, you could instead target keywords such as –

  2. Online marketing for beginners
  3. Making money with online marketing
  4. Does online marketing really work
  5. Building an online marketing business

Can you see the trend there? The same “root” keyword is still part of the search term, BUT by adding on a few extra words, then we are targeting a more specific audience.

The more specific the search term – the lower the competition.

 

Low Competition Keywords – Simplified.

Going after low competition keywords is often takes a bit of brainstorming. What you can do is start with the root search term that you are attempting to rank your page or website for. From there, have a quick brainstorming session where you can come up with a list of related search terms.

From there, you’ll want to enter in all of your low competition keywords into a software program that will show you the traffic that your keywords will generate when you rank in the top few spots within the search engines.

One cool thing is that I’m actually using this very strategy as I write this post. I’m picking the low competition keywords using Jaaxy, and setting this post up to be optimized for a few search terms that will generated good, steady, traffic for me.
